A DAY IN THE LIFE AS AN EDUCATION MANAGER

Did you know that the Education Department connects with thousands of students, scouts, campers, and families each year through a wide range of mission-based programming? The Education Manager-Programs supervises a team of full and part-time educators and the fee-based educational programming at the San Antonio Zoo, including field trips, day camps, classroom programs, day and after-hour tours, overnights, virtual programs, and much more! All programs and initiatives align with the zoo's vision to secure a future for wildlife and promote conservation-based behavior change.

You must be fully committed to San Antonio Zoo's mission to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wildlife we steward and animals we protect. You take pride in knowing your hard work is making a difference in wildlife conservation.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION MANAGER
  • Two years supervisory experience preferred, preferably with a similar institution.
  • Three years experience as an informal educator (preferred), teacher, education administrator, or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in science, education, or related field.
  • Extensive knowledge in the fields of zoology, ecology, conservation, and educational resources and trends preferred.
  • Experience developing, promoting, implementing, and evaluating educational curriculum.
  • Considerable experience working with diverse audiences and delivering educational curricula in a zoo.
  • Commitment to conservation.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer service background as indicated by education and/or previous experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to efficiently use other software platforms, including department registration and scheduling systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all manner of employees, vendors, and guests by email and on the phone.
  • Ability to maintain the safety of participants, staff, and volunteers before, during, and after program experiences.
  • Ability to train, inspire and evaluate staff to engage program participants in fun and effective conservation education activities, presentations, and programs.
  • Proven team player with strong leadership skills, positive outlook, and ability to work effectively and diplomatically with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond effectively under pressure.
  • Skilled at managing multiple tasks and communicating well with multiple departments and management.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Must be able to work in varying climates and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, or cold).
