Job Description Summary
Dr. Shelley Berger's laboratory in Department of Cell & Developmental Biology is seeking a motivated individual to fill a full time Research Specialist A/B position. The person will facilitate the biochemistry and molecular biology aspects of the research group, and will work closely with post-doctoral researchers within the cancer biology subgroup of the laboratory. The expected work includes molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, cell biology, and molecular biology experiments, as well as aiding laboratory logistics and performing lab maintenance tasks. The person should be able to work independently. Previous research experience preferred, with preference for prior experience in cancer biology, aging, and molecular biology. Position contingent upon funding.
Job Description
A new Research Specialist A/B is expected to modify/troubleshoot procedures, assist in planning the protocol, and report progress to the PI. The candidate is expected to keep accurate notebooks, perform data analysis and assist in publication preparation. The Research Specialist A/B will also be expected to help with general maintenance of the research laboratory, including, but not limited to equipment upkeep/maintenance, order receiving, inventory management, and other general lab tasks. This person will help facilitate the biochemistry and molecular biology aspects of the research group, and will work closely with post-doctoral researchers within the multiple subgroups of the laboratory. The expected work includes molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, cell biology, and molecular biology experiments, as well as aiding laboratory logistics and performing lab
The incumbent will create/facilitate usage of shared calendars for online meetings/conferences and essential personnel occupancy in lab.
The Research Specialist B will have the same requirements, but also have knowledge and expertise in handling of animal and insect husbandry and familiarity with laboratory safety and standard techniques.
Both will be expected to design/maintain a new website for Epigenetics of Aging P01 group, consisting of labs from the University of Pennsylvania, Wistar Institute, and Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute.
Qualifications
Research Specialist A - Bachelor's Degree with 0-1 year of related experience in research or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Research Specialist B - Bachelor's Degree in science and 1 to 3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
