Environmental Monitoring & Technologies, Inc. (EMT), is an environmental laboratory, providing our clients with quality testing services for 35 years. We specialize in analysis of water, wastewater, and soils for organic and inorganic compounds, as well as conducting field sampling services for a variety of regulatory programs. In an effort to prevent hazardous substances harmful to the environment from entering fresh water sources, EMT samples flows of water, wastewater, and storm water, for such harmful substances as lead, mercury, cyanide, and dozens of other organic and inorganic compounds.

OBJECTIVES OF POSITION:

The Laboratory Technician (LT) performs a wide variety of tasks to facilitate production and quality goals. The LT is responsible for planning daily workflow, monitoring quality of procedures and proper technique, and communicating issues and needs to the Inorganics Supervisor.

The Laboratory Technician will perform tasks according to EMT's standard operating procedures and protocols in a culture of safe action, honest, and ethical behavior in all laboratory activities. The LT will perform specific duties assigned by the Inorganics Supervisor to ensure that client service requests are met. The LT must display motivation to see projects through to completion to meet client expectations.

SPECIFIC DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
  • Primary Laboratory Tasks:
    • TCLP Preparation
    • pH analysis
    • Other tests as determined by the Inorganics Supervisor such as titrations, distillations, metals digestion
  • Tasks related to primary duties:
    • Sample disposal
    • Sample neutralization
  • Responsibilities of the position:
    • Keep track of and order needed supplies for your work in a timely fashion as to not incur RUSH delivery charges.
    • Prepare and properly label reagents and standards
    • Complete general laboratory paperwork in laboratory logbooks, maintenance books, standard books, bench sheets, etc.
    • Report results in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
    • Properly dispose of samples according to the SOP
    • Clean and maintain in good working order any laboratory instrumentation (pH meters, pipettes, etc.) assigned to you by your supervisor
    • Communicating to your supervisor the status of your workload as well as any data quality issues
    • Assisting your supervisor in determining sources of problems (Corrective Actions Reports) and implementing any corrective actions to resolve those issues
    • Other duties as determined by your supervisor

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds using correct and safe lifting techniques.
  • Must be able to work in refrigerated storage areas for short periods of time.
  • Must be able to wear all PPE required for the position

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS:
  • Working knowledge of laboratory methods for organic, inorganic and preparation methods, or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel
  • Working knowledge of Element ™ LIMS or equivalent;
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills;
  • Self-directed; goal and outcome driven.
