Summary Description
The Department of Sociomedical Sciences ( SMS ) at Columbia University's Mailman
School of Public Health is seeking applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the Associate Professor level. We particularly seek applications from social and
behavioral scientists teaching and conducting research in public health promotion and practice in areas such as health equity, social determinants of health, structural racism, substance use, mental health, food systems and climate change. Within these areas, approaches focusing on program evaluation, community partnerships, and health communication are welcome. We are seeking applicants interested in academic program leadership. As a campus with a continually growing diverse student body, we strongly encourage applications from under-represented faculty and individuals with a commitment to mentoring under-represented students in public health.
Minimum Degree Required
A doctoral degree in social or behavioral science or related field (DrPH, PhD, ScD, EdD) is required.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates should have experience and training in public health and/or the social and
behavioral sciences. Outstanding teaching and experience in academic administration
are also a priority. The candidate would have a leadership role in the educational endeavors of the department, likely including the MPH program. Successful candidates
will be expected to direct a School-wide Health Promotion Certificate and teach
graduate-level health promotion courses. Possible courses include Program Evaluation, Intervention Design, Health Literacy, Public Health Theories, or Social and Economic Determinants of Health. The selected candidate is expected to have or to demonstrate potential to obtain local or national funding for their research. We are particularly interested in highly motivated individuals with program management and interpersonal skills to lead and sustain diverse academic teams.
