Job Description Summary
A Research Specialist B position is available within the Jurado lab at the University of Pennsylvania! The Jurado lab studies mechanisms of disease pathogenesis of emerging viral pathogens using in vitro and in vivo models. A successful candidate will support ongoing research within a supportive environment with the opportunity to directly contribute to research projects. Major skill sets required are excellent written and verbal communication, self-mediated drive, and a proactive approach to daily tasks. Further, candidate qualities should include a strong motivation to learn, tendency to pay exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to multitask. Previous laboratoryresearch experience and work with handling laboratory animals is highly preferred. Techniques that will be commonly used within the position will include cell tissue culture, nucleic acid manipulation and analysis, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, viral production and infection assays and procedures. In addition to performing experiments and analyzing data, the research technician/lab manager will be expected to participate in laboratory meetings, contribute to lab administration and general lab duties.The Research Specialist C: All duties listed above plus the following, under limited supervision.Design and plan experimentsAnalyze data and write lab reportsPresent data at conference and meetingsPrepare manuscript submissionsThe Research Specialist B candidate should have a Bachelor's Degree and 1-3 years of experience and the Research Specialist C candidate should have a Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years of experience.The Research Specialist C will have a higher level of complexity of duties, more independence on judgment, problem solving and decision making, and more supervisory responsibility.Contingent upon grant funding.
