Nature School LA is looking for experienced and passionate Outdoor Educators / Forest School Teachers to join our school for the 2021 - 2022 school year. Our schools meet daily, rain or shine, in West and East Los Angles.

You and two other teachers will accompany and teach a group of up to 12 children, ages 3-9 years in the outdoors over the course of 1 year. In this time you will witness powerful relationships build amongst the students and see how they care for each other. You will experience with the students how Los Angeles' natural environment changes throughout the months and will form an intimate connection with the local ecosystem. This is a highly rewarding experience for any adult to partake in!

Our emergent curriculum is child-centered, interest-led, inquiry driven, and educator supported. We have a healthy balance between structured academic blocks and unstructured play blocks. Teachers work with a small group of students and adjust curriculum to meet their varying academic needs. You will teach math, english, science, history, and social-emotional learning. You will also play games, sing songs and create crafts with students. During unstructured play, you will know when not to interfere, know when to step in, and be comfortable letting children be. We believe in giving them space instead of instructions. If you are afraid to see a child up in a tree about 5ft high, then this might not be the right job for you!

This job is unique and requires you to be positive, patient, adaptable, enthusiastic, creative and engaging. We work as a collaborative team, so you must be able to communicate clearly and have high emotional-intelligence. Finally, you must be able to create a warm environment and safe space, practice risk-management and love the outdoors. You should see yourself as part of the natural world in a holistic way, in the form of inter-being.
