Job Description
Environmental Health and Safety Engineer II
The Environmental Health and Safety Engineer II will ensure compliance to the waste management program and to support the EHS Department in implementation, reporting and monitoring the Company's safety programs to ensure best practices and compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations.
Specific Job Responsibilities
- Develop and promotes proactive safety culture that delivers safe workers and a safe workplace.
- Inspect work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with company, state and federal safety policies and regulations. Be familiar with hazardous materials and waste management regulations.
- Perform weekly hazardous waste collections (RMW and chemicals) from lab areas. Maintain metrics for waste disposal and monitor chemical satellite accumulation areas (SAAs) and management of hazardous waste storage room.
- Responsible organization and documentation for the Hazardous Waste Storage area.
- Familiar with LOTO, Hot work permit, Hazard Communication and chemical hygiene management and other OSHA workplace programs; Occasionally prepare presentations and provide training on such topics.
- Review GMP documents such as SOPs as SME. Assist to resolves implementation problems Provides technical support to all departments for comprehensive risk assessments, process hazard assessments and exposure assessments.
- Oversee Universal Waste coordination and recycling program (i.e. electronic wastes, bulbs and plastics) as well submit annual recycling report.
- Assist EHS with facility audits, chemical inventories and corrective actions as it pertains to identify hazards, recommend preventative measures and corrective actions
- Provides visibility to EHS issues and escalates as needed.
- Assist in other duties as assigned by the EHS Manager as it pertains to personal protective equipment, spill response, fire safety/evacuation, compliance reporting and SDS filing. Conduct monthly inspection emergency lighting, AEDs and fire extinguishers. Maintain first aid cabinets, Perform weekly test check of showers and eyewash stations.
Knowledge & Skills
- Highly organized, excellent communication skills, reliable and attention to detail is critical.
- Knowledge of chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental health standards in accordance to state law.
- Knowledge of related OSHA federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols, procedures with regards to the workplace.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work well with all levels of employees and staff.
- Proficient in computer software programs such as WORD, EXCEL and PowerPoint).
- Team member of Safety Committee, MERT and Evacuation Team.
Required Education & Experience
- A Bachelor's Degree in Safety or related Science discipline with a minimum of four (4) years of relevant industry experience.
Preferred Education & Experience
- A degree in Safety or a related field.
- A recognized safety certification.
- A minimum of three years of safety experience preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- OSHA 10 hour in General Industry.
- Certified in CPR/First Aid.
