Our Mission:

Northwestern Health Sciences University prepares the next generation of healthcare professionals to deliver and advance health care.

NWHSU Overview:

Founded in 1941, NWHSU is a progressive institution educating the next generation of health care professionals. While the institution's history is rooted in the chiropractic profession, NWHSU now focuses more broadly on integrative care, health, and wellness. In addition to our Doctor of Chiropractic, we offer a Doctor in Chinese Medicine, and offerings in massage therapy, nutrition, undergraduate health sciences, and the allied health professions - medical assisting, medical laboratory science, medical laboratory technology, radiation therapy, and radiologic technology. We are a mission- and vision-driven university, preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals to not only deliver, but advance health care.

Position Information:

We are hiring for an adjunct faculty opportunity teaching Clinical Microbiology II (3 credits) in our Medical Lab Technology program starting in our summer term. This is a part-time, non-benefits eligible role.

This course provides Associate of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology students with an in-depth exploration of parasites, fungi, and viruses frequently encountered in the medical setting. The curriculum content is already established and approved by internal and external processes. The course is designed to be completed over a 15 week period (the length of one trimester). Due to COVID restrictions, this course will be offered fully online for the summer term but will follow a hybrid format in subsequent trimesters. Instructors for this course would be expected to record lecture videos for each week, facilitate weekly live discussions via Teams, grade assignments and assessments, and provide feedback to students and program administration in a timely manner.

Catalog Description: Fungi, parasites, and other clinically significant organisms are introduced in this advanced course, along with review of pathogenic bacteria. Laboratory procedures focus on safety, quality control, specimen processing, and identification procedures for bacteria, fungi, parasites, viruses, and other pathogenic organisms. Correlation of laboratory test results with health status and disease are emphasized, along with proper quality control and laboratory safety protocols. MLT 1150 (Clinical Microbiology I) must be completed as a pre-requisite for this course.

Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Current certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
  • This course will continue to run in future terms, so preference is for an individual who can commit to teaching beyond one trimester

Equal Opportunity Employer:

Northwestern Health Sciences University is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to creating an inclusive environment that values the diversity of its employees and does not discriminate against any employee or candidate.
