Position Summary:
The Environmental Technician provides support services to Business Units in matters dealing with Wastewater Treatment, Storm Water compliance, WPDES (Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System), SARA, RCRA Hazardous Waste management, Liquid Waste management, UST/AST, and Remediation Projects.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform Wastewater monitoring of effluent discharges from pretreatment processes
- Record compliance data from Wastewater Treatment processes and prepare/submit reports to regulatory authorities
- Assist in reviewing Wastewater Treatment processes for modifications to or replacements for current systems
- Perform Storm Water monitoring; conduct inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with Storm Water regulations
- Perform WPDES monitoring of outfall discharges, prepare/submit reports to regulatory authorities
- Track and maintain records of WPDES permits from the Regulatory Agency
- Gather/compile information from manufacturing plants, prepare/submit SARA Tier II Reports to regulatory authorities
- Conduct sampling and characterization/profiling of wastes and determine disposal methods
- Coordinate waste pick-ups/lab-packs, track/maintain records of manifests, prepare/submit Annual Hazardous Waste Report to regulatory authorities
- Maintain Hazardous and Liquid waste database for tracking costs and exploring waste minimization.
- Review and approve/reconcile invoices of services for payment
- Coordinate, track, and maintain records of UST/AST activities
- Assist technical staff in the management and monitoring of contaminated sites/remediation projects
Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements:
- Working knowledge of state and federal laws relating to Environmental Pollution Control
- Oral and written skills necessary to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
- Organizational skills necessary to successfully manage multiple projects in conjunction with day-to-day tasks
- Casual knowledge of analytical chemistry lab techniques
- Casual knowledge of budgeting
- Ability to take on short notice assignments and meet close deadlines
- Ability to understand detail and present summary principles in recommendations to management
Education and Experience Requirements
- Associates degree in a specialized technical/scientific field related to Environmental Pollution Control
- 0-3 years of experience in related position
