Position Objective: Provide services as an Animal Biologist (Non-Human Primate) in support of the Scientific, Operations and Administrative Resources (SOAR) program at various Institutes and Centers within the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts / provides behavioral testing on non-human primates.
- Conducts MRI structural scans.
- Handles and trains non-human primates.
- Provides safe transportation of non-human primates.
- Performs historical processing of non-human primate tissue.
- Prepares/sterilizes surgical equipment and instruments.
- Provides input into research protocol and performs surgical procedures on animals involved in research protocols.
- Collects, maintains, and organizes MRI imaging data.
- Performs health surveillance and assessment of non-human primates.
- Provides training of new staff on the proper handling and testing of non-human primates.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- PhD, Level 5 or Bachelor's, Levels 1 - 4 in Life Biological sciences
- Level 1 - requires 1-2 years of relevant experience.
- Level 2 - requires 3-4 years of relevant experience.
- Level 3 - requires 5-7 years of relevant experience.
- Level 4 - requires 8-10 years of relevant experience.
- Level 5 - requires 11-13 years of relevant experience.
- Experience working with animals' non-human primates in a research environment.
- Demonstrates Experience performing surgical procedures with non-human primates.
- Experience analyzing experimental data.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff.
- Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
