Job Summary
The Power Plant Tech is responsible for maintaining environmental regulatory compliance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations at the Moss Landing Power Plant to meet the energy generation requirements of the Luminant Power Fossil Fleet in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner.

Job Description

Overview:

The Power Plant Tech is responsible for maintaining environmental regulatory compliance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations at the Moss Landing Power Plant to meet the energy generation requirements of the Luminant Power Fossil Fleet in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine environmental regulatory compliance activities throughout the Plant under general supervision from the Environmental Manager including but not limited to: sample collection and analysis, data collection & analysis, monitoring & reporting, and the timely submission of reports to various regulatory agencies
  • Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting and resolution of plant Environmental systems
  • Oversee and maintain the safety and general cleanliness of the onsite ELAP laboratory, performing all required compliance related tasks, reporting, and equipment calibrations
  • Develop a familiarity and understanding of the Plant's various environmental permits to ensure compliance objectives are continually met
  • Scheduling and tracking of hazardous waste shipments, laboratory samples, and laboratory equipment
  • Participate in site safety programs and adhere to established safety procedures and practices Complete and maintain all required training and certifications on time
  • Provide supplemental support for compliance activities at the Oakland Power Plant (either remotely or in-person)
  • Assist with all other environmental duties as assigned


Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a related field (i.e. environmental science, chemistry, biology) and 3 years of related work experience or a minimum of 7 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of environmental sampling, monitoring, and reporting; quality assurance requirements for testing and analysis; and use of analytical laboratory equipment
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with coworkers and inspectors
  • Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Detail oriented with excellent documentation skills
  • Must be flexible and be able to work non-routine hours or overtime to meet deadlines
  • Takes personal responsibility for safety of self and others
  • Travel up to 10% of the time


Preferred Requirements:
  • Master of Science in a related field (i.e. environmental science, chemistry, biology) and 3 years of related work experience
  • Experience with environmental compliance duties at a gas-fired power plant in CA
  • Knowledge of CA environmental regulations including but not limited to: air emissions monitoring and reporting, water quality monitoring and water chemistry, soil sampling methods and analysis, hazardous materials management, hazardous waste handling procedures, and complex environmental permitting
  • Familiar with the following environmental permits: NPDES, EPA Title V, Hazardous Waste Facility, NTNC Water System, and various Permits to Operate (PTO)
  • T1/D1 Water System Operator Certification or the ability to obtain one in the first six months of employment
  • Direct experience with the following regulatory agencies: SWRCB, CARB, DTSC, DOT, and OSHA
  • In depth understanding of water quality testing methods, water chemistry, environmental sampling, monitoring & reporting protocols, and continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS)
  • Knowledge of technical and/or scientific report writing


This position can be filled at a level I, II, III or IV depending on experience level.
