HGS is looking for an Environmental Scientist to work remote. Must possess knowledge of environmental regulations with respect to RCRA, CERCLA/SARA, TSCA, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, etc., and the ability to apply the appropriate regulations to compliance and remediation projects. Should have experience in surface and subsurface soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, vapor, and air sampling techniques, as well as aspects of obtaining all types of samples through various drilling and sampling techniques, along with appropriate documentation procedures. Must have experience as a scientist developing quality work products that meet project objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide oversight of field programs, maintain current working plans, and communicate progress via verbal and written reports and presentations
  • Supervise the installation of soil borings and groundwater monitoring wells
  • Perform environmental sampling of all media (soil, water, sediment, etc.)
  • Apply federal, state and local laws/policy as it pertains to CERCLA and RCRA projects
  • Author compliance reports and plans; Five-Year Review Reports and Land Use Control Implementation Plans
  • Conduct technical reviews of documents as it pertains to environmental remediation and compliance projects
  • Obtain and review historical documents to ensure compliance with government and regulatory and industry standards
  • Prepare written reports and responses to regulatory review comments as it pertains to projects
  • Communicate directly with client on status of cleanup actions implemented at restoration sites


Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry, or related field from an accredited 4-year program
  • Minimum of five (5) years specialized experience in working in Environmental Remediation and Compliance
  • Must report professional registration, in their respective field, where applicable or available
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be able to gather and analyze data, reason logically and creatively, draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations
  • Exhibit strong leadership qualities
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required to meet deadlines
  • Must have ability and interest in frequent, extensive travel (domestic/CONUS and OCONUS). Upto 40 50% travel per year.
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with peers with various levels of experience
  • Ability to work in the field/outdoors, as well as lift and carry items weighing up to 60 lbs
  • Must possess or be able to pass a federal background check
  • Strong Excel, Word, MS Project and Teams skills. GIS and AutoCAD experience is a plus
  • OSHA 40-HourHAZWOPER and 8-Hour Refresher Certifications. OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction/General Safety card is a plus
  • First Aid and CPR/AED Certification
