Sealaska Technical Services (STS), LLC is seeking a part-time, on-call Staff Wetland Scientist to support our growing federal and commercial business operations. STS is a growing, progressive business that provides environmental consulting, technology integration and deployment, systems engineering, environmental monitoring, and construction management services to a variety of governmental and commercial clients at job sites located around the world.

The successful candidate will have strong wetland science skills to support projects in inland environments. We are looking for a candidate with experience in delineating wetlands and assessing their functions, with experience working with federal and state agencies.

  • Responsibilities may include identifying wetland plants, soils, and hydrology along with assessing wetland functions in the field.
  • Preparing reports, reviewing technical repots, collaborating with regulatory agencies, and project management.
  • Conduct field wetland functional assessments to describe soils, flora, and hydrology indicators.
  • This position is expected to support the program manager in preparing, reviewing and producing technical documents in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a biological science or closely related field (e.g., botany).
  • At least two years of progressively responsible experience with wetland science.
  • Minimum of two years of work experience with environmental consulting firm or government agency.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce high quality written reports and verbal presentations
  • Preferred but not required a working knowledge of the 1987 Army Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual and familiarity with the regional supplements.
  • Field experience describing wetland soils, flora, and hydrology indicators; especially with conducting wetland functional assessments
  • Demonstrated successful relationships with clients and regulatory agencies
  • Ability to prepare technical reports.
  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

Additional Requirements:

Position is subject to satisfactory completion of a background check, reference check, physical exam and urine analysis. A valid driver's license is also required for this position.

  • Work Environment: Mostly office but will include field work in extreme temperatures and humidity with exposure to biting insects.
