Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for an Environmental Coordinator, Tailings & Water. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.

Will be on an even Rotation schedule.

Reporting to the Environmental Team Leader .

Responsibilities :
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Identify and assess applicable legal and other requirements within the areas of responsibilities assigned and determine how the identified requirements apply to Red Dog Operations' (RDO's) environmental aspects
  • Identify operational, monitoring and record keeping actions necessary to ensure full compliance with applicable legal and other requirements. The incumbent will work with the EMS Coordinator(s) to ensure that these requirements are communicated to the workforce
  • Provide environmental training to the workforce to help ensure compliance with applicable legal and other requirements
  • Participate in the evaluation of compliance with all applicable legal and other requirements
  • Assist RDO in evaluating legal and other requirements that may be applicable when changes are proposed for the facility
  • Keep abreast of technological developments in his/her areas of responsibility and evaluate their applicability to RDO
  • Coordinate data collection, sampling and monitoring activities within his/her areas of responsibilities with the Environmental Technical Supervisor
  • Possess strong verbal and oral communication skills and technical skills that will include but not be limited to: Microsoft Office Suite® and any other software applicable to the incumbent's areas of responsibility
  • Compile and submit reports to meet internal and external requirements (e.g., to agencies, corporate and communities of interest)
  • Maintain a working relationship with communities of interest and may serve as a point of contact on regional affairs
  • Uphold high moral and ethical principles in conducting RDO business
  • Maintain safe work practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications :
  • A bachelor's degree in environmental science or engineering, or other natural science is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite® applications (i.e., Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Knowledge of applicable legal and other requirements within the areas of responsibilities assigned, as they may apply to RDO environmental aspects
  • Experience with air, water, wetlands, and waste regulations and knowledge of/practical experience with Environmental Management Systems
  • Experience working under State of Alaska environmental statutes/regulations/permits and with State of Alaska environmental regulatory agencies is required
  • Experience with State of Alaska land use and water use authorization programs preferred
  • Strong technical skills and the ability to analyze data and solve problems
  • Ability to work in a team environment and work effectively across all levels of the business with competence to direct the activity of others
  • An environmental compliance work history that includes the mining industry is preferred
  • Good communication skills and a strong technical background
