Austin Powder is seeking to hire a full-time Environmental Regulatory Specialist to join our team at our Red Diamond Manufacturing plant in McArthur, Ohio.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Environmental Regulatory Specialist is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance with all applicable environmental regulations for the Red Diamond Plant in McArthur, Ohio from an air, water, waste standpoint as well as additional satellite manufacturing locations in various states.

The Environmental Regulatory Specialist is responsible for escalating issues, accurate and timely reporting to agencies, troubleshooting of production processes to obtain compliant operation and review site projects from an environmental aspect. The position is responsible for review of this 2,000 acre hazardous materials complex with 50 various use buildings, which support production of chemically manufactured energetic materials and packaged explosives used in commercial applications.

The Environmental Regulatory Specialist works closely with plant management, plant engineers, maintenance, environmental, safety, regulators and 3rd party consultants and contractors to achieve full compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide technical expertise to assist the business in making appropriate decisions to limit environmental impacts and maintain license to operate
  • Analyze and interpret environmental data and writing regulatory and internal technical reports
  • Liaise with regulators as appropriate on environmental permitting
  • Review new site projects and ongoing operations from an environmental basis and provide advice on environmental requirements
  • Proactively work with operations on environmental issues
  • Interpret regulatory issues, technical issues, and analytical data to properly enforce regulations and document compliance
  • Prepare of a wide range of reports involving environmental regulatory compliance and environmental impact analysis
  • Perform SWPPP and SPCC inspections as well as other internal site inspection to monitor and verify compliance with permit conditions
  • Review all applicable environmental permits/programs and exemptions in the regulatory areas assigned (e.g. air quality, wastewater, stormwater, solid waste, drinking water, etc.) to ensure that all anticipated environmental related activities are in compliance with existing permits.
  • Recommend monitoring and/or corrective actions for any compliance deficiencies or improvements
  • Assist in solving environmental concerns related to plant operations.
  • Coordinate with maintenance/engineering to address environmental equipment breakdowns and maintain all preventative maintenance requirements.
  • Remain current on all training requirements (applicable safety, RCRA, SPCC, SWPPP, etc.).
  • Assist in development or revision of required compliance plans (SPCC, SWPPP, )
  • Assist in data gathering and generation of environmental reports (TSCA, TRI, Tier II, PER etc.) as assigned.
  • Assist contractors and vendors as needed.
  • Provide assistance with safety inspections for SHES department
  • Lead spill response efforts
  • Assist environmental inspectors, auditors, or consultants.
  • Assist in development or revision of environmental work instructions as needed.
  • Ensure that all environmental records, information and reports required for regulatory compliance or per Company policy are maintained and completed as needed and on a timely basis and that all records and information are properly safeguarded.
  • Complete all required reporting and updating for:
  • RCRA Permits
  • Non-Title V Air Permit
  • NPDES Permits
  • Drinking Water Permit


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelors of Science or Engineering Degree in Environmental related discipline
  • Minimum of 6 years professional experience in environmental regulatory compliance


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledgeable in government regulations, including EPA, DHS, ATF, NFPA, OSHA, ADA, and other regulatory agencies as they apply to the facility).
  • Computer skills including Proficiency in Microsoft software programs.
  • Willingness to "roll up the sleeves" to get the job done. Able to work alongside crew members to achieve goals.
  • Must be able to perform lifting, climbing ladders, carrying tools and equipment routinely.
  • Strong work ethic and desire to take ownership and drive results.
  • Demonstrate strong safety ethic and conduct all work in compliance of OSHA standards.
  • Decisive and able to make high-quality decisions, even when based on incomplete information or in the face of uncertainty. Readily able to distinguish between what's relevant and what's unimportant to make sense of complex situations.
  • Ability to lead complex projects across multiple business functions to achieve quality results.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This position requires minimal travel.
  • Must be able to perform lifting, climbing ladders, carrying tools and equipment routinely.
  • Ability to work overtime and off-shift schedule as needed for projects.
