Job Description
Our client, a well-funded Biotech Startup, is seeking a Sr. Scientist/Scientist to be a key contributor to the development of target identification engine for CNS disorders, including psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. The Scientist will be responsible for identification, implementation, and development of strategies and protocols for the differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells into CNS cell types, both neurons and glia. These iPSC-derived CNS cell types are key to the discovery of novel targets, mechanism-of-action studies, and biomarker identification and validation.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of neurobiologists, data scientists, and clinicians to identify novel therapeutics for the treatment of CNS disorders.
  • Design and execute an iPSC differentiation strategy to reproducibly generate CNS cell types, including neuronal subpopulations, microglia, and astrocytes and other cell types of interest.
  • Innovate to develop complex cell culture models to be used for disease modelling and mechanistic studies.
  • Collaborate on genetic screening and experiments utilizing iPSC-derived cell types.
  • Be the scientific thought-leader in the area of human iPSC-derived CNS cell models in order to drive innovation and identification of novel targets for CNS disorders with high unmet medical need.
  • Ability to manage tight timelines and deliverables in a collaborative environment.
  • Mentor junior research scientist(s) to support in experimental paradigms across departments that require iPSC-derived cells types.
  • Critically analyze, interpret, and communicate findings at both internal and external meetings and/or conferences.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and timely electronic records of experiments and data analyses.

  • PhD in neuroscience, cell biology, molecular biology with 0-3 years of experience. MS/BS (5+, 10+) also considered with relevant CNS iPSC differentiation experience.
  • Prior, hands-on experience in culturing and maintaining iPSC/hESC-derived cells types (preferably CNS focused), as well as, primary cells and immortalized cell lines.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques for characterization of cell lines (ie. DNA, RNA, protein analysis; FACs sorting, CRISPR genome editing)
  • Previous small molecule and/or pharmacology experience is desirable.
  • Background in analyzing multidimensional datasets (ie. single cell analysis, CRISPR screens, live cell microscopy) is desired.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a cross-functional environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
