Overview

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world's leading conservation organization, seeks a Senior Program Officer for the Sustainable Ranching Initiative program. Under the direction of the supervisor, provides technical expertise to develop, prioritize, and coordinate projects for the Sustainable Ranching Initiative (SRI) and oversees measuring progress toward program goals. Implements projects to protect and restore grasslands and improve grassland management with the ranching community and communicates results to a wide variety of stakeholders. Grows existing capacity-building efforts. Assists with fundraising proposals and initiatives. May supervise one to two full-time associate or specialist-level staff members.



Responsibilities

  • Coordinate implementation, monitoring, and reporting for programs intended to deliver the goals in the SRI strategy.
  • Implement regional projects to protect and restore grasslands and improve grassland management, including tracking progress in conjunction with the science team.
  • Communicate results to local and regional audiences through a variety of channels and provide perspective and technical insights in revising program strategies as needed.
  • In coordination with the Director of Conservation Programs and the SRI Program Manager, develop proposals and assist in outreach to prospective funders.
  • May manage 1-2 staff members of the NGP SRI team, as well as various consultants and contractors.
  • Other responsibilities assigned by manager.



Qualifications

  • Must have a bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: Biology, Conservation Biology, Range Management, Zoology, Ecology, Wildlife Management or other related field
  • Must have 8 years of experience in field research, monitoring, management, or conservation of biodiversity.
  • Knowledge of Northern Great Plains ecoregion preferred
  • Professional experience in landscape ecology, natural resource management, conservation biology, or conservation policy required
  • Experience working with ranchers or private landowners required.
  • Ability to think strategically and to incorporate input from a variety of stakeholders, collaborators and fellow staff members.
  • Experience supervising staff, including developing work plans, providing feedback and managing performance, and providing leadership to a team is a plus
  • Experience managing complex projects, including managing budgets, tracking metrics, and developing timelines is preferred
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to exercise good judgement. Willingness and ability to think outside the box, be innovative, and work with ranchers across the spectrum.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as with a team.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience managing external consultants/contractors.
  • Excellent communication skills, both one-on-one and in a group setting.
  • Ability to take initiative and facilitate the work of others.
  • Must be willing to travel as necessary within the NGP region, which may be up to 25-50%.

  • Position is for the WWF-Bozeman office, but selected candidate is not required to relocate there. Preference is given to candidates based within the Northern Great Plains region
