Responsibilities: We are seeking a permanent research ecologist with strong statistical and spatial modeling skills to develop a research program in the Southern Rockies / Southwestern United States. Research may focus on species, populations, communities and/or ecosystem level questions, but should focus on one of the following topics: spatial ecology, development and analysis of broad-scale monitoring programs, or assessment of how forest restoration treatments affect species, populations or communities.
This position will be housed in the research branch of the USDA Forest Service. Applicants should have the interest in interacting with a dispersed group of scientists throughout the Rocky Mountains and with the management branch of the Forest Service to co-produce knowledge that helps them in their decision making processes. The scientist will be asked to balance a portfolio of basic and applied science. A strong commitment to conservation and program development is important.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in a biological discipline relevant to quantitative wildlife biology and landscape ecology. Post-doctoral experience is preferred but not necessary. The candidate should demonstrate research excellence, high levels of productivity (e.g., publications, invited talks, research products), creative problem solving, the ability to build a research program as documented through peer-reviewed publications, and obtain independent, extramural funding. Demonstrated ability to work with a team and lead others is essential.
