Game Warden - Wyoming Game and Fish Department

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  


The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking to fill several Game Warden vacancies throughout the state. Responsibilities include law enforcement duties; wildlife management data collection; wildlife conflict resolution; depredation investigations; working with the public; and representing the agency in day to day contact with the public.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

 

  • Participates in research projects and population surveys.
  • Assists in providing information on wildlife education, law enforcement and management.
  • Gathers and compiles data into statistical information to meet requirements of periodic or other reports.
  • Patrols assigned areas to check for violations of game and fish and watercraft laws.
  • Carries out a variety of tasks in the habitat development and propagation of wildlife.

 

 

Qualifications


PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


**Agency requires that candidates have a Bachelor's degree in wildlife management, range management, biology, zoology, ichthyology, or other closely related field. Other degrees may be accepted with relevant wildlife work experience.

Wyoming State Law requires competitive testing (exam) for wildlife law enforcement positions (game warden).  Qualifying to take the game warden examination is based on review of college transcripts and relevant work experience submitted with application.  Candidates must successfully pass the Wyoming Game Warden Examination in order to be considered for a subsequent interview.  Please refer to the link below for details:

**Agency requires that candidates possess a valid driver's license.


KNOWLEDGE: 

 

  • Knowledge of basic concepts, principles and practices of wildlife management, animal biological processes.
  • Knowledge of game and fish statutes and regulations, and of enforcement of game and fish laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of wildlife and fish species identification and life history.
  • Knowledge of population ecology.
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques and regulations pertinent to the investigation, court procedures and prosecution of violators in wildlife, hunting or fishing, and watercraft related criminal cases.
  • Knowledge of watercraft safety.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Biology)

 

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Biology)
 

OR

 

Education & Experience Substitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Biology)

None

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Willing and able to undergo a background check, which will include fingerprinting.
  • Ability to work independently and ability to act as an observer from small aircraft.
  • Meet physical fitness assessment requirements of Wyoming law enforcement academy.
