CONSERVATION BIOLOGIST AT MIDDLEBURY COLLEGE. The Department of Biology and the Program in Environmental Studies invite applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies with a focus in conservation biology, beginning in Fall 2020. This will be a joint 50/50 appointment in the Department of Biology and the Program in Environmental Studies. The candidate’s area of expertise should include field research with a vertebrate system. Applicants should have a Ph.D., and postdoctoral experience or its equivalent, as well as demonstrated commitment to excellence in both teaching and research. The successful candidate is expected to be able to teach an introductory course in environmental science, conservation biology, an upper-level elective in biology with a field-based laboratory component, and a senior-level environmental studies course (community-engaged environmental studies practicum). The candidate will also occasionally contribute to Middlebury’s First Year Seminar Program and Winter Term course offerings. The successful candidate is also expected to establish an active research program in conservation biology that includes field research with a vertebrate system. Aspects of the research program should be adaptable, but not necessarily exclusive, to the northeastern regions of the United States.

The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the growing diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, scholarship, and service. Demonstration of evidence-based inclusive pedagogy, mentoring, and advising a diverse population of students is essential.

Middlebury College is a top-tier liberal arts college with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in faculty teaching and research. An Equal Opportunity Employer, the College is committed to hiring a diverse faculty as we work to foster innovation in our curriculum and to provide a rich and varied educational experience to our increasingly diverse student body. Middlebury College uses Interfolio to collect all faculty job applications electronically. Email and paper applications will not be accepted. Through Interfolio, submit a letter of application addressed to Dr. Jeremy Ward, Conservation Biologist Search Committee Chair, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching interests and philosophy, a statement of research interests, a one-page statement on inclusion, one sample of scholarly work, and three confidential letters of recommendation, at least two of which speak to teaching ability. At Middlebury, we strive to make our campus a respectful, engaged community that embraces difference, with all the complexity and individuality each person brings. The statement on inclusion should address how your teaching, scholarship, mentorship, and/or community service demonstrate a commitment to and/or evidence of engaging with issues of diversity and inclusion. More information on the position is available at www.middlebury.edu/academics/bio. Access to Interfolio is at https://apply.interfolio.com/65228.  Applications for this position will be accepted starting on July 15, 2019, and all application materials must be received by September 15, 2019.
