Impact by Design (IbD) is seeking a Director of Behavior Change Strategies who will lead the organization in our capacity building with partners to effectively execute human-behavior change campaigns for conservation, improved animal welfare, and the environment.   We are looking for someone who is passionate about and experienced in behavior change science and its application to real-world environmental and animal welfare challenges, excited about engaging with our non-profit partners through training and coaching, and committed to exploring how behavior change principles can be brought to new partners and clients in the future.

The Director of Behavior Change Strategies will be based remotely.

Why this role is important for IbD:

The Director of Behavior Change Strategies will be an ambassador for IbD’s behavior change portfolio, and play a critical role in building cutting edge expertise and innovation for our growing organization.  We are seeing a building interest in our behavior change trainings, coaching, and capacity building from new and potential clients, and are excited to bring dedicated expertise to lead this effort, grow our client base, and ensure we continue to provide our partners with the highest quality support.

What you will do:

Your regular activities may not be the same every day but will include:

  • Providing leadership and oversight for our behavior change products, clients, and projects

  • Designing behavior change training curriculum customized for different target audiences

  • Providing in-person training and capacity building workshops for our partners in a national and international setting

  • Attending/presenting at relevant conferences to build our presence and brand amongst target audiences

  • Meeting with prospective and existing clients to share our expertise and what we can offer

  • Cultivating relationships to develop and expand our client base

  • Writing blogs, thought pieces, and externally facing content for IbD social media

  • Writing proposals for new areas of work and partnerships

  • Staying on top of the latest behavior science and application in the community of practice

What we care about most in this position:

  • You are passionate about training and capacity building; bringing behavior change principles to the community in ways that are meaningful and helpful for them.

  • You are excited about helping to build the behavior change expertise and brand of a small but growing non-profit consulting firm.

  • You are an engaging and authentic public speaker in audiences large and small.

  • You have the spirit of an entrepreneur, someone who can see problems and solutions and has the ambition to make things better.

  • Working with people is genuinely fun for you, but you are also motivated and driven when working alone and in a home office.

  • You are comfortable with feedback and are happy in a team-oriented environment that is focused on learning and continuous improvement.

Basic Requirements

We are looking for someone who has the skills, passion, and attitude that will build from IbD’s preliminary success to expand our toolkit and increase opportunities to bring this thinking to the environmental, animal welfare, and conservation space.  This could be someone with a background in the social sciences, applied behavioral science, designing behavior change or communications campaigns in the US or abroad, or providing trainings in behavior change principles and practice.  We are most interested in someone who can demonstrate that they will thrive at IbD and be a genuinely good fit for this work. This means that you:

  • Are focused on delivering the highest quality products and services

  • Have the practical skills and expertise in behavior change science or campaigns to build IbD’s brand in this field

  • Are flexible in identifying new ways to meet our audience needs

  • Actively engage in the conservation, environment, animal welfare, or behavior change communities of practice
