WWF is recruiting for the role of Leader, WWF Tigers Alive to be located in one of our WWF country offices in Asia to help us achieve our new ambitious goals, and build a future where people live in harmony with nature.

Mission of the Department:
Tigers Alive is WWF’s highly ambitious and visionary species recovery programme. It proposes a bold plan to galvanize political will and take action to double the number of wild tigers by 2022 (this overarching goal is known as TX2); focusing on 13 landscapes that the world's top tiger experts of have identified as offering the best chances of growing the world’s tiger populations.
Lead and direct development and implementation of WWF's Tiger Alive programme.
As one WWF’s highest profile and ambitious conservation programmes, the leader will be required to take responsibility for a complex, often controversial programme involving activities in more than 20 countries involving a budget of US$12-20 Million per year. The leader will work closely with all the implementation countries (and those leading in conservation, fundraising, policy, global communications) whilst also managing a team of 12 staff working on the global tiger and thematic priorities including WWF’s largest long-term fundraising campaign – the TX2 Campaignaiming to raise US$200 million in 5 years.
- Leads and coordinates Tigers Alive activities across the 13 tiger range states, and helps mobilize the global WWF network in support of programme goals.
- Mobilizes transformational actions from external actors and stakeholders in support of WWF’s: acts as “door opener" and ambassador for WWF's tiger conservation work
- Manages a dedicated team, and mobilizes the human, technical and financial resources both within the WWF Network, and externally, to implement this initiative.
- Works with the Tiger Advisory Group to identify and act upon emerging threats and opportunities relevant to tiger conservation.
- Leads and manages WWF’s strategy and operational plan to deliver on the WWF contribution to the TX2 Goal.
- Supports and leads regional and international policy formulation, lobbying and negotiation on tiger issues, internally as well as externally in various international policy fora; supports national and local policy work.
- Represents WWF at relevant international conventions and meetings, and acts as a spokesperson in international media, as they relate to tiger issues.
- Helps ensure tiger conservation priorities are taken up by and integrated with other priority WWF programmes.
- Develops strategic alliances with business and industry to deliver on the programme, particularly to ensure sustainable financing mechanisms and behavioral change.
- Develops strong relationships with institutional donors for external fundraising and works in coordination with NOs and POs to help raise funds for tigers.
- Develops and nurtures institutional relationships key to achieving the Tigers Alive strategic goals.
- Assists WWF implementing and supporting offices towards delivery on the Tiger Goals and Objectives; provides guidance to help ensure country workplans deliver against Tigers Alive goals.
- Responsible for identifying gaps and priorities and funding needs with the Tiger Advisory Group.
- Directly manages the Tigers Alive TX2 Campaign team.
- Works across the WWF network to ensure delivery of the Tigers Alive objectives.
- Leads on one or more significant elements of the strategic plan depending on skills and competencies.
- Responsible for the effective management of the budget for the TX2 Campaign and other donor and contractual responsibilities; s/he will be responsible and accountable for proper, wise and strategic use of these funds amounting to over US$ 3-5 Million per year.
- Works with WWF programme communicators to develop campaign approaches as necessary, and communication outreach to support the Initiative's objectives.
The position will require frequent global travel often including remote and difficult locations and conditions.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:
- Technical proficiency in the field of conservation, natural-resource management or international development.
- At least 15 years professional experience in a leadership role, with demonstrated success in managing multi-disciplinary teams and multiple donor budgets.
- An advanced degree or comparable experience in conservation, natural sciences, management, international development / international policy or a relevant field.
- Credibility in Asian conservation circles.
- Excellent knowledge of and commitment to tiger conservation issues, and their global context.
- Excellent campaigning and communications skills.
- Proven strong negotiating and lobbying skills at the governmental and intergovernmental levels.
- Experience in engaging with business and industry sectors, to change practices and behaviours.
- Experience in raising and mobilising funding.
- Experience with building strategic alliances and partnerships to achieve common goals.
- Experience in leading global teams.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a complex organisation, with cross-cutting, multinational, multi- disciplinary, teams.
