Ecological disruptions due to the invasion of plague in North America are widespread.  Our research was initially motivated by the effects of this disease on the conservation of federally listed prairie dogs and black-footed ferrets.  We are now investigating the ecology of plague under enzootic and epizootic conditions and experimenting with vaccines and vector control to manage plague.  We will capture and mark prairie dogs and small mammals, collect fleas, blood, and other samples, and will compare survival rates for various treatment groups. We will also evaluate and identify tools that can be used to manage plague and protect black-footed ferrets, prairie dogs, and other mammals. Workers are needed during May-October. Prior field experience is helpful but not required. Applicants should (1) exhibit a passion to work with wildlife and (2) seek to facilitate efforts to conserve wildlife and preserve natural resources. Housing and cost-of-living reimbursement provided. Please submit a cover letter, CV, and (if possible) unofficial transcripts.
