The College of Natural Resources at North Carolina State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Coupled Natural-Human Systems at the rank of Assistant Professor. Many of the greatest challenges to humanity in this century will relate to the effects of global environmental changes, including biodiversity loss, climate change, invasive species, land-use change, over-exploitation, and disease, on human health and well-being. Addressing these challenges requires interdisciplinary research and education across the natural and social sciences for the development of natural resource governance and policy, and research that explicitly addresses feedbacks between natural and social systems. We are especially interested in candidates with strong quantitative skills as well as candidates with demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary research and scholarship combining the social and natural sciences. This position is part of a cluster hire in Global Environmental Change and Human Well-being ( Opportunities for collaboration exist across departments and colleges as well as with the USGS Southeast Climate Science Center, the North Carolina Museum of Sciences, the Center for Marine Sciences and Technology, the Office of Public Science, and the Cluster of Public Science. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, extramurally funded research program that enhances existing strengths and builds additional capacity in interdisciplinary research and education. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and/or graduate courses in disciplinary and interdisciplinary areas related to socio-ecological systems. Post-doctoral and teaching experiences are preferred.
