About Appalachian Mountain Club
Founded in 1876 and headquartered in Boston, MA, AMC is the oldest conservation and recreation organization in the country, with more than 200,000 members, supporters, and advocates from Maine to Washington, DC. AMC has 170 fulltime staff with offices in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, New York, and Pennsylvania. Our conservation research and policy advocacy are fundamental to accomplishing AMC’s mission. AMC also operates numerous recreational facilities from Maine to New Jersey, all of which are open to the public, and owns and manages about 75,000 acres of forestland in Maine. AMC offers outdoor education and leadership training programs for youth and adults, maintains over 1800 miles of trail including the Appalachian Trail in five states, and runs over 6000 outdoor trips each year primarily led by volunteers.
